Experience

I attended University of Arizona and received my Bachelor of Science in astronomy and physics. I minored in Italian and mathematics. I am an experienced teacher and I've taught students at every academic level. I used the Socratic method when teaching. I don't believe that the recitation of facts is the proper way to teach my pupils when each subject requires reasoning, critical thinking, and problem solving. It is vital that students learn the logical methods to arrive at a conclusion, or master their understanding in a subject and not sacrifice their educational opportunities to recitation and rote. Knowledge is power.I had a student one year who needed to draw a diagram of a convex lens forming an image. I could have just shown him how to do it, but instead, I asked him questions, leading him through to the solution, which he arrived at on his own. He told me that he had learned more in the past five minutes than in all his last semester studying optics. I was very proud of him, and of my teaching methods. This verified for me the use of the Socratic method of tutoring. My favorite hobby is reading.
