Experience
I pursued my bachelor's degree in Philosophy at Stanford University, and I attended Brown University for my master's and Ph.D. in Philosophy. I've been lucky enough to spend the last few decades living out some great dreams, and my time has been full of travel, excitement, and experimentation. I spent a lot of time exploring the continents of Asia and Africa, I've designed and sold jewelry, I built a home in the Gulf Islands (in B.C.), and built structures out of straw bale on my land in Arizona. I'm currently based out of Phoenix, where I tutor a vast array of subjects in Mathematics. I've taught math from the elementary level to college level, including Arithmetic, Trigonometry, Geometry, Calculus, and Algebra. My favorite area to teach, by far, is Algebra because there's a great need to focus on the process in order to come to solutions. You can't just attack the work with a calculator, you have to follow the threads of a problem from start to finish, acting like a detective gathering clues. Like investigative work, too, there are multiple ways to get to a solution to a problem, and I like to teach in a way that speaks to that variety so that many different students can relate to the work based on their learning style. It's important for me to understand each student's strengths and learning approach. I enjoy making art (ceramics and glass work) and reading personal-growth-related prose.
