Experience
I currently attend Arizona State University and am pursuing my degree in Applied Biological Sciences. I have experience mentoring and tutoring students in high school and college. In addition, I am aiding two honors instructors in their efforts to create a writing tutoring program. Through this experience, my mentors have fostered in me a love of teaching students to write. Writing is my favorite subject to tutor, but I also tutor a wide variety of subjects, including algebra, biology, chemistry, and Spanish. I find it best to create a balance between creating an environment in which my student feels comfortable with being efficient and fully engaged in the lesson. I believe that tutorship is a partnership where a tutor provides support to a student, not answers. I believe that most students have greater learning potential than they realize and this is the first lesson I attempt to instill during a session. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy being in the water, surfing, scuba diving, and swimming. Additionally, I volunteer with Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE), an organization devoted to teaching young girls how to break stereotypes.
